63 year old gay DAV Vet helps out Vets where ever I can. Last politcal gig: ran Perot's IL Campaign the 1st time he ran. Retired headhunter & lazy lout who hasn't worked this century.
Ninepatch’s Army – tonight: Live with A Real Soldier
At the age of 63 I got drafted again. I’m now in Ninepatch’s Army. Our mission: while in Austin for Net Roots Nation, we plan to pack and send 100 Care Packages to our troops. Tonight we have Jonathan Norrell on the line [think of my role here as Larry King – without the paycheck or toupe]. Jonathan is still in the Army and has been a recipient of care packages – but not from Ninepatch or any of you.
In 9 days Louisiana will hold Special Elections. This is about 1 of them. This is about regaining a Democratic Congressional Seat once held by the legendary Hale Boggs. Following Hale’s death his wife Lindy inherited and was reelected to it. To this day there are more registered Democrats than Republicans. Since Katrina, there are even more.
This is Lousiana 01 – and that as wonky as I’m going to get. YatPundit's 3 diaries answer all your questions. Don’t ask me. I read them and we have no time to repeat YatPundit’s work. ‘Cause we’re on a mission. This ought to put you in the right frame of mind:
Funerals for those killed in Northern Illinois University tradegy have been scheduled. Many students, faculty, and friends may wish to participate. Please reconsider your plans.
I live in the area and humbly suggest that those of us who do not know the deceased attend the wakes, but only go to the churches - not attempt to get inside of the churches - for their funerals. Most of these churches will be too small to contain all who wish to attend.
Out of consideration and respect to their families, friends, and classmates, they should be allowed to inside. However, your presence may be helpful to the families. Follow me over the jump for details about the funerals and the role you can play to honor these students.
Tonight - June 5, 2007 - Berkeley, CA (San Francisco area)
Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at Moe's Books, 2476 Telegraph Avenue,
Berkeley CA you can meet and greet Ilona Meagher.
Tonight, our own Ilona Meagher will have a long-awaited book signing in Berkeley. Her book, Moving a Nation to Care, is now available at the Moe's. She will be joined there by a number of kossacks.
I have read this book in galley form. It is excellent. It is a very good primer for anyone curious about PTSD. It is also an excellent and useful reference manual for anyone with a friend who may have PTSD.
Tonight, our own Ilona Meagher will have a long-awaited book signing in New York. Her book, Moving a Nation to Care, is now available at the Greenwich Village Barnes & Noble. She will be joined there by members of various Veteran’s Groups.

"I think the public should be aware that there is devastation and injury going on," said Bethesda intensive care nurse Allison Bischoff. "We hear on the news, 'X amount of service members killed,' but we never hear about injured, we never hear about recovered."
From ABC's special tonight by Bob Woodruff
Asking people to watch ABC really goes against my grain. But as Nurse Bischoff says, "we never hear about recovered." Tonight we do.
Two separate calls to action: after the jump
UPDATE: I've seen it - West Coasters: this is a must!
Adam's diary turned into meta about midnight yesterday. People care.
Turns out people care about you, Adam. A lot. Forget about the comments concerning your writing. Some really, really good writers think you are fantastic. So do I.
This is about a personal journey to sanity - it's about you. You have the ability to survive this nightmare because you can write about it. That step is a huge one. Many can never take it. You already have. You can survive.
The Veterans' Alliance for Security and Democracy released the following statement regarding the "NEW" Iraq policy announced by President Bush. This diary is posted with their permission and at their request.
Ultimately, it will be the American people's outrage and outspokenness that force the hand of the Executive in this crucial and devastating area.
We are extremely concerned that President Bush's new so-called policy in Iraq is a thinly veiled "Stay the Course" escalation, the poker equivalent of doubling down with a busted flush. VETPAC is dedicated to preserving the values for which veterans have served, fought and died. We are concerned with policy issues that affect military and veteran personnel, with issues vital to U.S. national security and with strengthening American democracy. This new policy adversely impacts all three of our concerns.
On the flip their statement continues along with bios of VETPAC officers and advisors.
Immediately following the swearing in of the new Congress and the Speaker of the House, I urge Speaker Pelosi to dedicate her service for this country to the following men and women. These people, of course, are all of those known to have died in Iraq. I urge the Speaker to yield to the newest members of the House first and work up through the ranks to the most Senior Member, each being given an opportunity to add names. This idea builds on one started by a bipartisan group of 21 Members of Congress in 2005 and 2006. By the conclusion of the 109th Congress, the names of all those killed in action up through 2005 had been read. It is time to start over.
I believe that not one single order of business in the next Congress is more important than this.
When the interest in a campaign turns this white-hot, when the media spend endless hours filling the air waves with stories empty of reporting, when speculation replaces investigation, what's going on in my Congressional District right now is what follows. Perhaps.
I'm only a volunteer for John Laesch - and much less active than most. My e-mail box has had all sorts of interesting items in the last 4 or 5 days. Among them was something that really stopped my clock. Let me share that with you after the jump:
I received the following e-mail yesterday. I asked and got the author's permission to reprint it here at DKos. This is a discussion going on in College Dorms all over the country right now. And this is a discussion we need to have here as well.
Before everyone goes off half-cocked about what political suicide the Democrats would commit by supporting a draft, keep in mind that it is the Bush Administration that is driving the need for this discussion. It is the Bush Administration that is abusing our soldiers. It is the Bush Administration that has its' head stuck firmly up its' collective ass about the consequences of the disaster in Iraq.
The author is uniquely qualified to offer the ensuing comments. He was a Specialist Five, U.S. Army (69-76), then retired as a Major, U.S. Air Force (77-94). But, more importantly, in my opinion, he is a "Dad of a Soldier proudly serving his second combat tour as a Tank Gunner in Iraq without complaint".
John is a Fighting Dem and one of our own. Check out his participation at DKos. He is the guy who is out to whip Denny Hastert. John is going door to door, just as Markos advocates, building support. It's working. Last Friday he was on the front page of the Chicago Reader - check it out here. That was in the middle of Hastert's attempt to protect a fellow crook congressman from being investigated by the FBI.
But about that virtual dinner: Zero calories, just as good as you could possibly imagine, and more, so into the virtual restaurant we go -
Rarely does a week go by that someone doesn't remind me about something good my Mother did. She and my father together had a 56 year love affair. She constantly gave of herself helping others and so did my father. He's 83 and she has been gone since 1999. These are a few of my memories of her.
I visited New Orleans once in my life - to complete the last wishes of my brother, Fred Pierce. Before he died he asked to have ashes scattered into the Mississippi from a certain spot on the levee.
He loved New Orleans, and thought of Mike Stark, owner of The Little Shop of Fantasy, as his mentor/muse. Fred would tell you he was an actor first and mask-maker second. Mike sold Fred's masks at the shop.
After Fred died I wrote or called persons unknown at the Little Shop of Fantasy. That's when I first encountered Ann and Laura Guccione - over the phone.
It took a minute before we became friends for life.
Sometimes a Crystal ball can be cloudy. But as scandal after scandal piles up, the stench of Washington finally is reaching the heartlands of Illinois.
I'm basing my predictions not on wishful thinking, but on what Republicans in this area of the country are saying. Even diehard Republicans are getting angry and embarrassed. For the first time in years, they are willing to talk to me about politics.
I am more politically conservative than most who are active on DailyKos.
So, without further ado I offer to you .... Something to dream on.
54 Fighting Dems - 2 Republicans on tweety tonight. Only the Dem looked capable of making a race. I think the military service of candidates is being taken seriously. But why, in the name of God, do Tweety's producers present 100% of Republicans and 2% of the Democrats.
I used to be a loyal fan of Matthews. I never thought that would be a confession.
